[RE] Nouveau
Staircase
The Reinvigoration of the Whiplash. Aim of the project was to, through the use of ornament, reinvigorate the whiplash curve of the art nouveau.
Project manifested itself through the design of a contemporary art [re]nouveau grand staircase.
The staircase is an experiment with contemporary speeds within the curvature of the Art Nouveau, thus creating architectural programs and details based on the acceleration of the whiplash curve.
The contemporary re-connection with the Art nouveau is used as a platform to hold ornamental manifestos, and relate to William Hogarth's theories on contemporary aesthetic, in particular the 'Line of Beauty', where the curvature is understood as being separated into parts of a larger composition, employing various lines with gradual undulations.
The whiplash acts as a unifying (constant) in which critical ornamental designs can be employed at specific moments.
